Preamble

We decided to spice up the mission here; instead of just playing Highly Classified with a bit bigger deployment zones and an extra Lt. Order I added some special elements reflecting the hidden research a bit more. Those elements are the X-Panoplies: they work similar to the regular Panoplies but offer more exotic weaponry - partly due to sheer wish listing, partly just for fun and partly just pure curiosity (maybe someone at CB reads this and gets inspired for the time when BAKUNIN will get some love). For the rolepaying aspect any surviving trooper with an X-Weapon will bring it into Praxis' custody.

The Chart and the other changes are also available in the attached PDF

"'Ploûtos', known as the god of wealth and the son of Demeter, is a quite fitting name for this undertaking", Vortex Major Hademar mused whilst sitting in the fully staffed briefing room, "let's hope that blind bastard hits the right individuals, us, with his blessings". Although Bakunin's council was eager to assert that they'd follow the Nomads High Command's orders not all Kommunes had the same opinion. It was Kommune S-87's Mayor, his formal employer, who came up with this far-sighted initiative which could provide huge boost to Bakunin's agricultural research sector. It's a simple calculation: more yield on less surface equals better. Let Corregdor put it's money where it's mouth is in terms of defending this station, if they lose it those few souls wouldn't have heped anyways and if this mission is successful no one has to care what happens with the whole peninsula, at least no one in Kommune S-87 and subsequently Bakunin, and if Bakunin is well Nomads in a whole will be too.
The briefing concluded with a hint about possible bio-chemical weapons and that the black hand would be quite happy about them. "Heh, just wait until you discover the High-Security Vault there..." Hademar commented in his mind, letting a brief smirk shine over his face.
During the descent towards the droppoint a few clicks away from the Xenofarm Gamma he realized he wouldn't be the only hardened veteran of several conflicts. Reverend Custodier Lisa Stratos who had been serving under him back on Flamia Island and aboard La Forja was now his Lieutenant for the First time. My her god bless them all...
The delay caused by Hademar's deployment together with W.A. Wolff and Fiddler in Reaveneye's Port Fire Control Module <-- [this is a link to my previous Batrep for your convienience ;)] threw the team amidst a heated battle between the Aleph Plastic Puppets and Combined Army forces, thus Victor Messer's information about the EI's swarm conciousness' decision to focus their attacks on the Xenofarm were correct. And generally the kind of news similar to a hornet's nest thrown at you

Strike Fast, Strike Hard

Xenofarms VIRD's deployment front to back: Fireteam of Fusiliers with Indigo Quinn and Spec-Ops, LRL Helot, Zulu Cobra KHD & Lt., LRL Helot, Fireteam of Patsy Garnett, ORCs with Feuerbach and Hacker
The whole Force, unaware of what will unfold soon

The team arrived on site commencing their tasks given by their Black Hand contact as in a sudden a whole VIRD detachment cropped up on the buildings close by; Maj. Hademar knew in that moment that they had either really bad luck or they were either sold out or that there was a pool close by... with a cloooose to zero chance for the last option to be remotely real but that bit of gallows humour be forgiven in this situation.

Classified objectives as delivered from the Back Hand contact, apparently ALEPH's minions were able to isolate and synthesize an active agent with healing capabilities (Experimental Drug) from the xeno plants. And one staff member posed a key role in this research(HVT: Follow Up & Retroengineering). Furthermore after the data could be collected this project should be brought to a halt (Sabotage) with the least ammount of collateral damage (In Extremis Recovery).

The Morlocks immediately charged towards the enemy lines with the effect that none of them was able to cover the terrain (waaay to open for the Morlocks used to the confined spaces of their mothership) with some smoke whilst getting killed by the Fusilier sniper's precise bullets. Hademar and the Reaktion Zond failed to clear the perimeter from the Helot's threat at first. Rev.Lt. Stratos advanced by the merits of her Cybermask program and extended command towards the HVT, gathered some of the needed intel and was furthermore able to mark the Fusilier Sniper so that the Riot Grrl might be able to get rid of this... nuisance. Again failure struck which rendered the Grrl unconcious.
This caused a major stirr up in the former Moderator Fireteam and after reorganisation the Paramedic approached the Grrl with the new found formula, which healed the Grrl but in her fervour the Moderator totally ignored the fatal danger coming from the aforementioned Sniper killing her effortlessly.
Meanwhile Maj. Hademar was able to get the amphibic threaet killed and thus advanced together with the other two Troopers towards the Panoply. An attempt to hit the coverless ORC Hacker and Patsy with his LRL failed but he could successfully extract the advanced UHU ADHL from the Panoply

The Fusilier fireteam began to repositioning themselves after the infamous Sniper had delivered another salvo of deadly bullets to the ML Grrl. Eventually Maj. Hademar's special Armour wasn't able to withstand the barrages coming from the HMG fusilier and Quinn also the Pitcher-Moderator and Wolfgang were rendered unconcious by them whilst Lt. Stratos was targetting all of them. Provoked by this masterful display of hacking prowess a Crockman Hacker appeard seemingly out of thin air with the attempt to isolate the brave Custodier. This failed but also the Revered failed her counterattack. Then the opponent's Indigo Spec-Ops made usr of his Multispectral Visor and was, despite targeted, able to easily overcome the Custodier's armour. On top of that the Croc Man got hold of her cube (In Extremis Recovery).
The Fusilier then attempted to finish off the Bakunin defense by shooting the Reaktion Zond to pieces but finally the targetting protocols had an effect and the Fusilier got killed. This got immediately retaliated by the Croc Man who knocked the Remote out.
Meanwhile on the flank formerly protected by the Riot Grrl Patsy and the Feuerbach ORC advanced towards the center but carelessly didn't take any cover. Due to this lack of self protection Fiddler's Jackbot could render the ORC unconcious right before it endet it's existence in a huge explosion whilst Patsy got stunned by the Zero FO's Flash Pulse. Thus she retreated back behind her bush.

on the brink

Due to losing not only their Lieutenant but also witnessing Maj. Hademar and W.A. Wolff biting the mud the Zero FO really wanted to clearthe theatre from the remaining fishman which he failed miserably at. this enforced the Spitfire Riot Grrl to leave her fireteam and she succeded with what the others had failed before: killing the fish with the first try. The Daktari failed to hit Wolfgang with her MediKit whilst Fiddler advanced towards the unconcious ORC trooper and the Moderator behind the Containers readiedhimself for some supression fire.

With such a diminished opponent the Varuna force wasn't really hindered at all. All troopers that could get any active Bakunian into their sights relentlessly downed them, The Riot Grrl fell to HMG salvos from the Fusilier Fireteam, the Daktari got gunned down by the Indigo, Fiddler was killed by Patsy who later hit on the irrisitable GoGo Marlene (HVT: Follow-Up) ignoring the Moderator's suppression fire. Then the killer Indigo sabotaged the chemical tank underneath the downed Reaction Zond and, to top that, Richie Quinn brought the unconcious Mr. Wolff into the VIRD's custody (Capture

The real last stand

just leave

Fully aware of what would happen to them if they stayed any longer the Moderator and his hacking enthusiastic colleague ascertained that the already collected data was saved and withdrew from the Xeno-Farm's blood drenched soil.

later...

Darkness. Pure and peaceful darkness. But there was light, it got brighter and brighter. And with it came noises, periodic beeps, rustling, it got quite busy. Then a whirr that changed the source the light came from followed by a sting that released a rush through his arm. Arm? He? With a sudden everything came back, gone was the peaceful darkness once and for all. Major Hademar sat in a hospital bed connected to some wires and tubes. The mission was failed miserably.
"How lovely you came back to us Major" a friendly voice sounded. "you were quite in a pickle, weren't you. The voice came from a beautiful, even, almost androgynous face with a warm smile that even reached his eyes. But these eyes were in no way friendly, they seemed to want to dissect him like a laboratory animal. He knew this face from before, but it had no meaning. This face existed a hundred times over and the people, no, the organisation it belonged to was not one that a normal citizen would ever want to get to know. to put it this way: if the secret police of old earth were already bad, they would shy away from this club. "To make it short and sweet you can call yourself lucky twice. First. our common aquaintances from a certain hyper-power wanted something more than they wanted to keep you. Second we had no use for a chaotic element anymore which made that deal favourable to us."
"What happened to the others and the data we could gather?"
"Hmm..." the face tilted its head slightly as if it heard a noise in the distance "Fiddler got puzzled back together, Wolff is still in the VIRD's custody and Stratos' cube... well, she is not of our concern. As for the collected Data: we would've liked to see a bit more and more detailed but at least you didn't fail completely. The API that brought you back to us after your long deep sleep is an agent our busy bees in the praxis hive, so to speak, could reverse engineer from the samples your Moderators brought home. But that's everything you need to know. Apart from the fact that you're in our debt. Now get some rest, you'll need it". The face stood up and wa leaving the room.
"But Wolfgang..."
The face turned around. "I said: rest." A snap of the finger. A sting. Darkness..

thank you 🙂 The encaged bright plants are actually my regular “greenery” whilst the green jungle is only used for special occasions, like this game 🙂

well… PanO has a history in Messing with cubes so we might see more chaos coming. *grabs popcorn*

  • Dom says:

    nice.
Just because my Vikor forgot to mention a few Veruna troops, you don’t have to sell him to Pano. The Veruna dudes are easy to overlook and the rest of the things were certainly correct.
