Day 2 at Darpan Xeno-Station

Following a repulsion of the Nomads, it was left to the forces of the Qapu Khalki to defend the Xeno-Station at Darpan. The battle occured as follows:

Unfortunately, though our forces were eager, failure of early warning systems prevented full combat readiness by our forces in the field, thus allowing our opponent to steal the initiative from under us.

Turn 1:

The opponent’s Irmandinhos were the first to move up the field. While attempting to use smoke to cover their advance, one was gunned down by our reliable Ghulam Snipers, thus robbing the opponent of some mobility. Unfortunately this proved to be merely a distraction as an opposing Spetsnaz trooper was able to drop behind our Odalisque, and eliminate her with a well placed boarding shotgun. Following this, the opponent’s Bearpode attempted to move between a building and the smoke, but was spotted and wounded by the same Ghulam Sniper. Seeing the advance slowing, William Wallace moved up with a group of Varangians using well placed smoke to conceal their entire advance. While moving through the smoke, William Wallace was able to take advantage of his positioning to wound, and knock an Azra’il unconscious. Though not much happened during the opening shots of the battle, it set up positioning for further advances soon.

Our ever useful Yuan Yuan dropped close to where we believed the enemy’s attack to originate from in an attempt to remove various support elements. This was only moderately successful, as the Yuan Yuan succeeded in eliminating one target, a Rokot, out of a potential 3 targets, before being killed by return fire. Our ever faithful Dr. Rouhani was able to patch an Azra’il in his fireteam back to fighting shape in order to continue providing overwatch, and HVT removal. Once revived, the Azra’il was able to eliminate William Wallace from the battlefield, thus throwing the entire opposing force into disarray in short order. An Al’Hawwa skirmisher was then able to move up on the opponent’s flank to immobilize their Chernobog TAG. He was successful in his mission, but in the process was eliminated by the TAG’s heavy weaponry, and missed his more critical assigned objective.

Turn 2:

Following their rapid advance the opponent was able to move his remaining Varangians closer to our lines while deploying smoke. Fortunately he lost 2 Varangians in the process, but this left our remaining Odalisque in an extremely vulnerable position for the enemy’s next move. A Varangian was able to make contact through smoke, and eliminate the Odalisque, but was stunned in the process. Following this success, a lane was open for the opponent’s bearpode to move forward, and engage with our Azra’il, thus eliminating the Azra’il, though dying to covering fire by the steadfast Dr. Rouhani. In addition, our opponent was able to use his Spetsnaz troopers to great effect to accomplish a mission objective by destroying structural supports in a nearby building, and dropping close to an Azra’il on the flank, and now alone, and wounding the Azra’il. Our opponent was able to restore his TAG to working order. This did require a large expenditure of effort, though the price seems to have been well worth it considering what happened next.

Our Azra’il on the flank attempted to fire back at a Spetsnaz trooper at close range, but was unfortunately too shaken by his earlier encounter, and missed his shots, leaving him vulnerable to the Spetsnaz troopers’ return fire, resulting in his death. Recommend additional range time and ballistic instruction for all Azra’il troopers post-mission. Our Ghulam Sniper team attempted to remove an opposing missile launcher, and was succesful in wounding him, though was wounded in the process by the opponent’s now active TAG. A second Al’Hawwa unit on the flank, and near the opponent’s zone was able to move forward and accomplish one of his mission objectives, and wound an enemy trooper in the process, though this left him vulnerable, the tradeoff was seen to have been worth the cost. Finally, Dr. Rouhani stood up in order to eliminate an enemy Irmandinho, though he was succesful, he died in the attempt by a missile launcher from outside of his field of fire. Thus ending the tale of Dr. Rouhani until his next iteration.

Turn 3:

The opponent’s TAG, now fully operational once again, attempted to move on on our left flank, though his attempts were frustrated by a Yuan Yuan, who was able to drop smoke, and obscure the TAG’s vision. The TAG continued to close with the Yuan Yuan, and was succesful in engaging in close combat, though was unable to wound the Yuan Yuan. This is considered a success, as a great effort was required by the opponent to maneuver to that position. Following the TAGs movement, a Varangian was also able to close the gap, but was reacted to quickly, and was unable to wound the Yuan Yuan.

Seeing an opportunity, the hacker from the Ghulam fire team displayed great initiative, and left his team to close the distance, and engage with the enemy HVT. Unfortunately, there was not enough tactical discipline left to accomplish any more of our assigned missions, and we were unable to finish the mission, resulting in a victory for our opponent.
