— Incoming transmission—

This is commander Mandrake from the Lazareto forces reporting from a semi-successful mission in Cameliard. Our forces managed to sneak close to the entrance of the temple, where alien artifacts were hidden. We expected that this operation will be tough, but that it was THIS tough was out of my imagination. The nomads troopers were able to secure some alien artifacts but at what cost? The casualties were extremely high, many wounded and the morale was at its lowest point during this campaign. We encountered a PanOceanian defense that left us no room to breathe, highly motivated to push back every invading enemy squad and even the jungle turned out to be dangerous.
Only with sheer will and her foresight ability, Jazz was able to use cyberware to obtain the alien artifact and so she was successful where the common troopers failed.
I request a promotion for Jasmin “Jazz” Caticovas for her bravery in combat, her ability to lead and her knowledge about enemy tactics.

The Table

The CJC-Forces

After my successful operation at Cameliard (see here: Battle at Cameliard Guard Post)I was able to get insights into the reliquary and what was hidden in holy temple of the NeoVatican. With great confidence, I planned a mission to send special trained nomad forces to the Reliquary to obtain some of the artifacts hidden there. For this mission I requested once again a Gecko Squad along with Tomcats and Senor Massacre. Their task was to invade the temple with cyberware support from Jazz and Morans who build up a network around this area.
The List: Corregidor Durgama L&S

The Svalarheima Forces

Special operations team with high durability and combat training were defending the entrance to the reliquary to secure the alien technology and try to prevent enemies from intruding.
The List: Svalarheima Durgama L&S

Personal note

Since this was a late night game at >30°, we decided to play with the same lists we used for our previous game. So our armies were not optimized for this mission, but it worked somehow.
The dice really hated me but we had a funny game. For this game we also took less pictures. The heat of the battle got us really into it.

Round 1

The Wandering Monk Liang-Kai rushed forward and vaulted over the remnants of a truck to get close to one of my Morans, who observed the battlefield from a safe position. Luckily, the brave Alguacil soldier Pablo Ortiz who detected the monk’s movement, shot him with his missile launcher and he took a lethal hit. From a far position, a Karhu, armed with his Feuerbach, shot several times on one of the Geckos. He was able to put some damage on the Tag without killing him. A frightful moment was when the Jotum appeared on the Battlefield. This heavily armed and armored Tag was known to be hard to crack and even harder to kill. The Tag moved to good shooting position where he was able to target the brave soldier First Seargent Pablo Ortiz, leaving him deadly wounded on the battlefield. After that successful hit, the Tag held this position to protect the Reliquary. One Knight Hospitaler as well as one NØKK sneaked through the jungle and reached one weapon depot stored in the bushes. The NØKK was able to took a Kevlar Vest (+4 ARM) from the Panoply but he noticed the CrazyKoala too late to avoid taking lethal damage from it.
The nomad forces were a bit surprised of the defense strength that they encountered here deep in the jungle. Something mysterious must be hidden here. Otherwise the defense wouldn’t be that strong. The Gecko Squad, led by Senor Massacre moved forward to fullfil their job in looting the alien artifact. While moving the already damaged Gecko took a lethal hit from the Karhu. Surprised by that quick death of one of our most reliable Tags Senor Massacre then deployed Eclipse Smoke to prevent the Karhu from further shooting. They moved further through the jungle until they reached the Knight Hospitaler. This was the shining moment for Senor Massacre, our most experienced and renowed fighter. He engaged the Knight in close combat, knowing his experience and art of fighting will take down the knight easily. But the outcome of this fight couldn’t be worse. The knight somehow managed to land a first strike on Senor Massacre with one of his D-Charges and our beloved fighter took a lethal hit. The remaining Gecko tried to shoot the Knight but he also took a critical hit from his Boarding shotgun, leaving him highly damaged but alive in the jungle bushes. Then the tomcat arrived on the battlefield to provide aid for the Gecko with his repairing skills. Maybe it was the jungle noises or something else what lurks in the dark, that distracted the Tomcat during his repairing. Somehow he capped a wrong wire and the Gecko was not functional anymore…
(Obviously it’s really hard to repair with Wip 13 and +3 Bonus). With the loss of the second Gecko the striking squad was not able to achieve their main goal here so our forces relied on a more fine blade than brute force. We brought the Moran in position so he could set up hacking range for our Hackers. Jazz used this opportunity to deploy the Total Control program on the Jotum, successfully this time!!. Controling the Tag remotely she was able to used the armored fury of this warmachine to open the reliquary and obtain the alien artifact out of it. With the Tag in our control, we had good chances to successfully accomplish our mission.

Hospitaler Knight on his way to the Panoply.
The Gecko took over the position right before he got shot.

Round 2

The PanOceanian commander forced to retake control over the Tag which was no longer in hacking range. The reliquary was quite damaged and the Svalarheima Karhu engineer decided to repair it for later use. This holy item stands for so many values in which the PanOceanian troopers believe. But the Karhu was also a bit distracted by the dangers of the jungle that was not able to repair the reliquary. Indeed, he managed to destroy it. I’m sure this will have disciplinary consequences for the Karhu. But this is not of my concern. The Karhu then shook off his confusion and climbed on top of one of their guarding post to get in a better position. He then was able to shoot at the Moran, who threatens the Jotum and took a lethal hit on him. With no longer threat the Jotum moved closer to our front line and aimed at several troopers of mine. He killed the Daktari and the Jaguar who was protecting our landing zone. He then held position near our defense line. It felt like a menacing shadow who will soon bring havoc to our soldiers.
With all special forces down, the nomads quickly planned a cyberattack on the Tag. For this, the vision of the Jotum should be limited by throwing smoke grenades. The Jaguar, brave as he is, tried to throw a smoke grenade but the Tags attention was on point. He critically hit the jaguar and his smoke grenade fell on the jungle ground. Well, I must admit, that at this point our mission goals were highly endangered. Therefore, in hard times you need brave soldiers who are able to accomplish missions even under enemy fire. The Alguacil hacker managed to come close to the Tag and, even more surprising, was successful in deploying the Total Control Program on the Jotum. But then the controlling Alguacil got cocky. He moved the Tag a bit to shoot the enemy Karhu with the Jotum but failed every hit, not recognizing he moved the Tag out of his hacking range. A deadly mistake, which we later learned.

Jotum moved ontop of the building to aim at several nomad targets.

Round 3

The PanOceanian commander again forced to retake control over the Jotum and then there was no holding back for him. The Jotum shot at the hacker, who controlled him a moment ago. His death cry still lasts in my ears. Then the Tag moves forward to engage our Communication Console in close combat. With his armored fury he was able to destroy the console with ease. After that successful task, the Tag entered in a killing mode and tried to kill as much nomads as he could. The second moran and a heavily wounded Jazz are on that list.
My last option here was too retreat from the battlefield with the remaining troopers as fast as we could. We obtained our goal but at what cost?! Let’s hope our scientist can bring more insight into this alien technology during their research.
