*Tavish McBeardlington slowed his breathing, this had been a hell of a sim.

After the testing of there forces during the opening stages of the campaign by there erstwhile allies in Aleph. Commander Syde O’Barn had been invited to participate in a training exercise on the surface, filled with confidence from his units performance during there last few engagements he had accepted, a chance to make it even.

The reports were grim, just as the exercise was scheduled to begin an alarm (in surprisingly un alarmed tones) had informed them that “Due to hostile action the biotechvore has been released, please proceed in a calm and orderly manor to the available safe rooms, Have a nice day”

The Ariadnans hadn’t been sure, was this part of the exercise? As they had been milling around Aleph had struck, that was 10 minutes ago.
Tavish’s could only get hold of the two volunteers, everyone else was dead.
A lightening fast shape darted into the control room, was that? no way! Parvati! Holy shit! Tavish burst from his AACB (Ariadnan Approved Carboard Box), if he was going to die today it was going to be after getting the Aristeia! champions autograph.

Turn 1:

In the confusion of deployment both Uxia and the unamed SAS managed to forget how to sneak and ended up in there own deployment zone, Tavish kept his wits about him and settled into the safe room safely nestled within his AACB.

Aleph pressed there attack almost Immediately, there Naga pushing hard along the right flank taking out a Blackjack and attempted to remove Syde O’Barn (the Mormaer) who managed to weather the fire and pass his saves.

The Dakini and co moved along the left, occupying a rather nice garden area adjacent to the control room, from were they punished the SAS’s incompetence. after dealing with that they took two wounds of poor Hairy McClary who could not throw a smoke grenade to (literally) save his life.

Ariadna opened with the Dog warriors (Hairy McClary and Sparky) attempting to reach the safe room with Big Ted (the Bearpode) in tow, this time while there smoke grenades didn’t stay around they prevented all but a wound on Ted and Sparky respectively.
A couple of coordinated orders saw the majority of the aradnans attempt to move up the board, resulting in the death of O’Barn as he traded shots with a Diva.

Things were looking bleak for Ariadna but once again the old tactic of “apply dog” proved its worth once again. The Antipodes bounded forewards, almost loosing there AACB in the process before crashing into the Dakinis, managing to tear apart the HMG and paramedic. they just could not hit the Multi sniper, the AI must have put a monks AI routine inside him the way he dodged every hit. this bought time for the Rudra to reduce the pack to just one member.

The Zenit attempted to assist, managing to only take a single structure point from the Rudra, before settling in for its rebuttal .

Turn 2:

The Shukra must have been paying attention to the Ariadnans doctrine.
As the Naga cleanly took the head of the Antipode controller, she recived a nasty shock as a rather keen Warcor called Paulie succeeded on a long bomb flash pulse (no one is quite sure how he managed this, within the Naga’s subroutines a infinitely repeating purple character clogged her systems), Parvati moved to snap her out of it.

And now dog, the Shukra sprang from hiding on the left flank as her robotic K9 chased down Uxia, the two volunteers and Paulie. Robo dogs with D-charge, chain riles and a continuously flashing Paulie resulted in the loss of Uxia and Paulie while a lucky shot from a Volunteer managed to finally put the Shukra down.

On the left the Rudra had had enough, casually dispatching Hairy and the Zenit while being seemingly impervious to oncoming fire, what ever ghost was in its shell perfectly placing its shots, despite its bulk it seemed to be capable of incredible agility.

Ariadna were used to being the underdogs but this was getting out of hand, Sparky was put down by the Rudra as he attempted to enter the safe room while Big Ted managed to die in a corner of the room to the combined shots of the Rudra and remaining Dakini, the Dakini continuing to show his complete disregards for any animal based shenanigans.

Turn 3:

Parvati ran from the right flank into the control room, deftly dodging the shots of the volunteers as they succumbed to the biotechvore. The Shukra and Rudra noticed a Box there data banks told them had not been in the safe room previously and got ready to insure Parvati’s survival.

Last turn, three orders this was it, Tavish could win this if he could take out Parvati, he just had to catch her.

Order 1: Tavish attempted to move close enough to Parvati to strike. the Rudra queryed the Shukra on how many legs a carboard box was supposed to have, the Shukra’s answer was to pepper it with gun fire, revealing a rather surprised Tavish (15,16 saves).

Order 2: Tavish managed to engage parvati in CC, he had fought a Marut to a standstill, he had this, he didn’t. Parvati dodged away as the Rudra and Shukra contined to rain fire. Tavish, again to his own amazment, survived (17,19 saves), choosing to roll guts Tavish dove behind cover.

Order 3: Tavish had one shot left, he shouldn’t be alive, none of this made sense, Tavish hefted his shotgun and fired twice at Parvati. leaving a perfect pellet outline of the Aristeia! star on the wall behind her, and a perfectly untouched Parvati beofre him.

Aleph WINS!

*I know CB probably wont see this but I just want to say “thank you”. Dagox and I were physically sweating by the end of this game, my write up probably doesn’t do it justice but this was one of the best games I’ve played in 20+ years of table top wargaming and this campaign has been the best excuse to play and RP I’ve ever had, so thank you – Kwapple
