20 hours prior to engagement, Bureau Noir INTELCOM observed a launch transient consistent with a small strike craft, lifting from the contested Gekidan zone following rogue Aleph element incursion in the preceding hours. The strike craft was classified as a Minerva-class armoured personnel drop ship or similar (CODE DESIGNATION: MOCKINGBIRD), operating without standard transponder activation in violation of Subsection IV, Paragraph 17c of Regulation 2122: Subatmospheric Navigation and Right-of-Way. Telemetry mirrored from RavenEYE and confirmed by XXXREDACTEDXXX tracked MOCKINGBIRD as being on a trajectory consistent with overflight of Zebu station. Trajectory timeframe was an underestimate of observed time of overflight by MOCKINGBIRD, suggesting brief maneuver and possible drop insertion of unknown combatants south-southwest of Zebu station.

Elements of O-12 task force Victor Bravo were deployed defensively between Zebu and potential aggressors from MOCKINGBIRD, later determined to be a ForCo assault team, with a goal of halting their advance and holding territory. As an additional objective, Mapping of nearby sites for potential symbiont contamination was also to be performed.

Disposition of Forces

MOCKINGBIRD elements were first to encounter symbiont activity. Several members of their contingent were subsequently infected, although it is difficult to tell which were infected with this symbiont vs. those with extra-legal nomad modifications. Recovered corpses have been transferred to Bureau Lakshmi for cataloging and identification.

O-12 Personnel Ensign Faulkner, Lance Corporal Murphy, Specialist Nakamura, and Gunnery Sgt. Guiterrez were also infected (see afteraction report and Medical Intervention Report form 13-2.a for each, attached). A Mk.VII Autonomous Nano Turret (ANT) was deployed to cover center fire lanes for added security.

Initial Engagement

Just after civil twilight, advance elements of MOCKINGBIRD on the western flank assaulted central positions held by Specialist Nakamura and her SiriusBot. Her position was overrun and we lost comms. After-action recovery of her cube indicates she was slowed by the symbiont, and unable to make an effective counterattack against the Uberfall unit the engaged her. Uberfall was recorded retreating after taking fire from the ANT.

Gunnery Sgt. Guiterrez, with covering smoke from PFC Stewart (Attached Expeditionary Auxiliary from the 13th Varangian Regiment) was able to repulse overwatch Bolt and Orc units and force them to ground. This freed up a lane for Oko-class drone 12-ac-k3t (RACKET) to advance complete forward mapping tasks, as well as secure Specialist Nakamura’s cube for recovery.

Other elements advanced to hold ground and stall ForCo advance, including MadTrap deployment by Officer Aziz. Master Sgt. Winslow and her Devabot activated cyber mask camouflage in case they were needed.

Continuing Engagement

According to after-action reporting on MayaCast, reporters on site believed the MadTrap to be restricted lethal autonomous ordinance rather than Crowd Control and Dispersal equipment permitted under Emergency Response Action 12-7-77. As a result, they got too close and were inadvertently adhered to the body of a panel truck. Uberfall units disabled RACKET and killed PFC Stewart, and overwatch elements of Bolt and Orc units returned to their previous positions. Zero units were seen mapping the area, we think to gather intel equivalent to that obtained by RACKET’s mapping earlier in the engagement. Additional Zero units attempted to mine Officer Aziz, but was surprised by the agility of Aziz as well as the overwatch of Lance Corporal Murphy and was eliminated.

Given a clear line of sight and permission to use lethal force, pursuant to SubSection III of the Bureau Aegis charter and amended by ERA 12-7-77, Sgt. Guiterrez proceeded to engage and eliminate aggressive forces. Overwatch Bolt and Pupnik drone units were eliminated. Victor Bravo advanced under the direction of Sgt. Guiterrez and secured three sectors.

Engagement Mop Up.

The remaining Uberfall assaulted Sgt. Guiterrez’s position, and while the chimera was eliminated, Guiterrez was killed in action. This gave the remaining Orc and Bolt elements room to advance, securing the north-west and south-west quadrants, and activating a transmit beacon in the south-western sector. Eastern quadrants were split, and Sgt. Winslow used the confusion to secure the South-west quadrant. Ensign Faulkner attempted to secure the north-east transmit beacon, but to no avail – he will be retaking required FO course TMB-101 to ensure similar failures do not occur in the future.

Elements of MOCKINGBIRD abandoned their position and returned to their drop ship. It is worth noting that even with their losses, several symbiont samples were not recovered from the site and are assumed to be in their possession. Ensign Faulkner and LC Murphy were both freed of their symbionts, using the method outlined on pages 166-171 of the 3rd Edition “Tohaa Biota, Biohazards, and You” manual using standard blow torch and pliers methods. They will be able to return to service later this week, as will Specialist Nakamura and Sgt. Guiterrez once they complete re-sleeving. Gunnery Sgt. Guiterrez has been recommended for a Distinguished Service Citation, 2nd Class, for his valor in the field and careful attention to engagement regulations. Mapping data from RACKET may provide insight as to current whereabouts of XXXREDACTEDXXX and are currently being reviewed by Bureau Noir.
