Durgama Takeover

The Azure Dragons had been returning to Bei Tu on Yutang for rest and refitting after a successful campaign on Epico; as the campaign had turned into a battle of attrition and sapped the army of its elite pieces. That’s when they received a priority communication from their headquarters. They were now at Durgama, with engineers conducting diagnostic tests on the remote optics, Guilang conducting ground assessments of the surrounding area and background personnel moving ammunition in preparation for operations. Xiu Sheng, a young up and coming commander made her final preparations before entering the steel works compound.

An old man met her at the front gate, he was well dressed, grinning, unarmed; curious she thought. “Good day ma’am, I am the YJ delegate for this region and I have good news for you! I have secured an agreement with the Haqqislam and Nomad delegations, for a defensive pact to aid you in eliminating PanOceania. No, thanks needed, but if you could pass a word or two up..”

Before the man could finish his sentence the whizz of an incoming rocket crashed into the near ground knocking him to the ground. Xiu saw that he was not seriously injured, but likely just had the wind knocked out of him from the force of the blast concussion. She thought about picking him up and moving him to safety, but was reminded of the repulsive aristocratic smile that she had grown to detest. She pointed at the hill two kilometers down the road, “Zhao! Take the reconnaissance detachment and silence those damn spotters”. “Liu, mobilize your detachment and prepare to reinforce the front gate!”.

The old man sat stunned, the scene around him was an eruption of deafening noise and flashes.. What had happened to the alliance? Had the results of the agreement not been handed down to the Haqqislam troops? He was shaking but managed to rise to his feet while mustering up the courage to speak. “..but we don’t want to do anything rash, that could jeopardize our pact…”. Xiu lowered her mk12 and unloaded from the hip into an onrushing Fiday, with blades drawn, “Yeah?! Go tell them bloody that!”

T1 – Carmen Johns takes the impetitous order and unfortunately stray out a bit too far and the TR bot guns him down. The Namuur haris moves forward popping off a wall of smoke from the Ghulam smoke launcher and the doctor from the fireteam core attempts to revive. Unfortunately this fails and with no cube the biker dies. The two fireteams move up to take up defensive positions in the middle of the board. The doctor goes through some smoke and makes the wip roll versus the enemy HVT and scores the first card.

YJ move their beasthunter into the middle of the big link and attempts to flamethrower the haris from behind, but all three are able to dodge successfully. The tiger soldier comes on and guns down the MSV2 Kawarijs from behind. Then the Hac Tao comes out and engages Tarik from the front, causing one wound while he falls back into cover. The tiger soldier then runs through several ARO’s and goes after Tarik, successfully doing another wound and bringing him unconscious while also being removed himself. The “EVO” bot then moves forward and lets go a burst of flame, killing the two injured core team members and knocking another unconscious, who was the fireteam leader. The Lu Duan is removed by the HRL in the fire team core. The Hac Tao pops the enemy flash pulse bot and goes back into marker state to wait for further orders.

T2 – It turns out the downed Kawarijs was the chain of command option and with Tarik off the table, Haqq are in loss of lieutenant. They use some command tokens and move the haris up to contest the right hand flank, but have little option to press any advantage or engage an organized YJ back line.

The Hac Tao moves forward and downs the haris on the left flank, however the doctor is only unconscious and has regeneration. The Hac Tao then proceeds to move into the zone of control of the enemy HVT and fails five times in a row on a roll of an 11. However, I do finally achieve it and grab the card to tie the game 1-1.

T3 – Haqq doctor regens and goes to pick up the Namuur, which it does but goes down yet again. The Kawarijs reform a haris and the HRL then engages my Hundun, killing it and splashing onto the nearby Kuang Shi, which also drops. They are able to make a wip roll on the beasthunter for a second card. However this allows the monk to dodge out and chain rifle two of them killing the HRL.

YJ moves the monk forward and is able to dodge into striking position to coup de grace, which it successfully does. The Hac Tao now needs to down the Namuur to coup de grace it, then grab the enemy HVT and bring back to its own half. I attempt to use the sensor bot with the combi rifle, which fails and goes down. The Hac Tao then engages, but as expected removes the Namuur from the table. I now need to coup de grace the flash pulse bot, which is protected by the enemy turret. The Hac Tao loses out to the turret on a crit and fails both armor saves, going down. The YJ doctor springs into action and shoots a medikit over to the Hac Tao who passes the PH save. The Hac Tao guns down the turret this time and coup de graces the flash bot for the second card tying the game. Unfortunately the extra orders spent here made it impossible to complete another card and the game ended in a draw, 3-3.

We played the game at a local commission painters business location, called Hecatina https://www.hecatina.ca/ The owner, Geoff Davis does some great work and his terrain is always immersive to play on, especially as this mission is in the jungle.

Xiu looked around at the carnage of the short yet intense battle. While the enemy was able to penetrate the outer defenses, the rocket attacks had ceased and their forces had withdrawn from the area. She knew this wasn’t a victory, but it would suffice for now in order to reorganize and get a grasp of what lay ahead in this campaign. Once they were able to get the reconnaissance elements out and do their job, things would get much easier, or at least she hoped that was the case.
