The StateEmpire garrison at Cameliard found itself bearing weight greater than most soldiers in the Human Sphere had ever felt: they had been tasked with securing this region from its original PanOceanian overseers, and then with holding it against a massed assault from the alien Combined Army followed by one from the forces of the ‘Hyperpower’ eager to make up for recent losses. And perhaps worst of all, even when a moment of relative quiet was found, it was prone to interruption by the encroaching interests of the Human Sphere’s other powers.

As seemed to be the case at this moment. Haqqislam signals at Cameliard were not in of themselves disastrous, for they stood together with the StateEmpire in the Durgama Defence Coalition. But these were clearly secretive, and worse showed signs they might be from Bourak’s dreaded hassassins… a force not known for letting government dictates restrain them, diplomatic arrangements would not stay their hand here.

A matter for the politicians to sort out, until then the soldiers of the StateEmpire would defend the interests of Yu Jing with blade and bullet.

Mission: Looting and Sabotaging (Assured Support, Depot)

This was a brutal, bloody game.

Yu Jing forces started out strong, pushing aggressively: the Zhencha perished to damage the enemy AC2, and while the Daofei had failed her infiltration roll she was able to quickly advance, discovering and gunning down a Fiday and an Asawira doctor before finishing off the AC2. The Asawira looted an HMG which proved a worrying threat, triggering successive reveals of both marksman rifle and rocket launcher Hunduns and a Long Ya REM in ARO to divide its fire so the Hsien could finish it off, at cost of their own lives. The last Asawira looted additional armour plates, emerging with the protection of a TAG, an issue Yu Jing would struggle to deal with later.

Facing fire from the Muyib core link, the Daofei dove for cover, but it was all in vain and the heavy infantry was felled, the Muyibs advancing forward. They proved more effective at dealing with the Hsien than the Asawira, leaving Yu Jing going into Loss of Lieutenant AND Retreat for the final turn, and with few pieces left on the board. Several command tokens later, the last Asawira was felled, but Yu Jing had only the Rui Shi still active on the field. The REM was given relatively free reign to ARO, a normally wonderful situation, but here it had a bitter taste… a spare shot to kill the remote would end the game, and Haqqislam was determined to score against the Yu Jing AC2. The Asawira was revived to accomplish a Classified Objective, and the Muyibs closed in on and smashed the AC2 with D-Charges. Until the last moment there was still hope, one remaining structure versus one remaining order, but that order hit true and the unit was destroyed, securing Haqqislam’s victory.

An excellent win for our brothers in arms in the DDC. Well fought!

Choice of soundtrack here would probably match better facing oniwaban than hassassins, but that last turn absolutely felt like being on the receiving end of Revengeance blade mode.
