The 2002 film Hero is an absolutely wonderful example of the wuxia genre, with excellent fight scenes, utterly top-tier acting, and heartbreakingly beautiful cinematography. It also takes a -few- liberties with the historical event it's based on - in real life, when Jing Ke tried to assassinate Qin Shi Huang, there was rather less melancholy philosophising and wirework martial arts as there was two dudes completely biffing their attacks and then chasing each other around a pillar for a bit while a doctor tried to help by throwing his medical bag at one of them.
Picture that with space robots and that's about what happened here.
This scenario gets -weird- at 150 points. The limited deployment zone meant that things got very awkward for my poor belaboured Netrods very quickly. Meanwhile, my Sophotect met a weird alien friend who gave her some armour.
I took the first turn, and the main priority was dealing with whatever that weird marker was inside the objective building.
And by 'ineffectual' I mean 'Tai Sheng instantly shot her super dead.' Meanwhile, upstairs, the fellow fighting Achilles decided to CLOSE COMBAT ATTACK WITH D-CHARGES YEEEEAAAAAH! Achilles saluted his moxie as he wiped the blood off his explodo-sword.
A combat jump tried to happen. I can't really tell you much more about that because he failed his roll and dropped right into the biotechvore and died. As did my poor Netrods, a far more tragic loss.
But all in all, a decent first round. Firm control of the objective and a plurality of dead people. And, like, all I really need to do is hold fast here, right? So Loss of Lieutenant wasn't really affecting me much.
Tai Sheng came on up the stairs to take a few shots at Achilles. But since I really just need to hold out, I figured I'd have him dodge. He's good at dodging, right?
Ah man the dice can be utterly terrible like that! Still, great game! Thanks for the fantastic photos and overview.
It was so funny seeing Achilles and the Yu Jing trooper b-hop in a circle. Classic Counterstrike tactics. If your dice hadn’t betrayed you this would have been a very different result.
Another Shamash battle report delivers exactly what I have come to expect. Solid recounting, great pictures, a touch of humor and thematic writing, and the obligatory Cat Tax. Lovely work, commander.
Some very claustrophobic fighting in that building! Tricky. Excellent report.
good battle reports and good cats. i love them.
