“What are we even doing here?” the Asawira grumbled.
‘We should be on the planet, capturing the terrorists at Darpan, not on board the space station engaging in training exercises.”
“Khalas!” Eskander shot back.
The Muyib Lieutenant had had the same argument with his CO just hours before, but it had fallen on deaf ears. An Ariadnan raid on the Hassassins aboard the satellite had made Command wary, and they were keen to show a strength of force to dissuade further attacks. Apparently allying with the Nomads on board would go some way to achieving this goal. …and the military games his squad was about to engage in was to go some way to forging that alliance.
Eskander wasn’t so sure.
His team lay in wait for the signal to begin the exercise…
"You have the green light to engage," came the voice over Eskander's radio.
But before the lieutenant could give his team the 'go' signal, the Motorised Bounty Hunter on his left flank sped across the battlefield, keen to break through enemy lines. But he was halted by a Gecko lying in wait.
"Damn it! Silly simulation! There is no way I would have been hit just then," comes the rider's words over the radio.
I wouldn't be so sure, Eskander thinks, as he signals his team to move into the facility in the centre of the simulated battlefield and set up defensive positions. His fireteam consisted of another Muyib, a Barid hacker and the grumbly Asawira. He had hoped to protect his team from the Nomad's TAG by throwing Repeaters into its path, and hopefully slow it down.
The advance was slowed by a Kriza Borac lying in wait. Eskander orders his Asawira forward and a few seconds later comes word that the HI unit is down.
"Damn it! They got the lieutenant," a voice over the comms shouts.
"I think you are on the wrong channel", Eskander replied back, "but I appreciate the intel all the same."
He was glad the enemy soldier couldn't see him, because Eskander was sure the smirk on his face would have made him mad.
But his smirk would be soon wiped off when Eskander heard another voice over the radio.
"I've been spotted. Engaging now....damn it! I'm out!"
It was the voice of the Fiday that Eskander had ordered to hide in the Nomad's back lines. The Fiday had been waiting for orders. But Eskander had forgotten to issue them to him. Instead, he had been too concerned about getting into cover from the oncoming Gecko.
Ahhh well, it was just war games, right?
"Biker advancing on the left hand side," came the voice of a Daylami. "Launching Panzerfaust! It's down!"
"Now here come the creatures. Launching again! Got one!"
Eskander wasn't sure a rocket grenade was the most suitable way to take out a Pupnik, but with no actual ammunition being used here, and everything being left to the combat simulation, he wasn't stressed if his soldiers wanted to have a little fun.
Meanwhile, the Gecko had advanced into the facility where his team was hiding, but seemed to be hanging back. Other Nomad troops crept behind the crates on the other side of the facility, and Eskander knew they were lying in wait for the Hassassins.
Well, let's give them what they want, Eskander thinks and ordered his Barid to use his Pitcher. The Repeater hits its target, and the Nomads halt, fearing what will come next.
Eskander seized on their hesistation, ordering his Asawira to use his AP Spitfire on the Gecko. The Asawira obligied and what would be the most intense firefight of the whole battle broke out.
....except, because it was just a training exercise.... there is about a minute of stunned confusion as the Asawira and Gecko point their guns at each other.
"What are you doing?" Eskander yelled. "Just shoot it!"
"I have," the Asawira grumbled, "four times already! Every hit has registered as a glancing blow. The computer is telling me there is NO DAMAGE to the Gecko!"
Five seconds later...
"....and damn it, now I'm down! Who even designed this simulation anyway?"
But that wasn't the end of Eskander's troubles.
A Ragik hacker parachuting into the battlefield got hit by an Adhesive Launcher, tying him down in place. With the Ragik unable to move, all the quadronic combat was left to the Barid, who tried to tie up the advacing Puppetbots by scrambling their comms. Although he managed to lock one down, the Repater was destroyed, giving the Gecko the chance to advance in on their position.
A lone Hellcat then dropped down from above the battlefield, and tried to pincer the fireteam from behind their lines. Quick thinking from the Shaytaniya Remote halted her advance, but gave room for a Chimera and her Pupniks to make their way on Eskanders left flank. A lone Daylami who tried to intervene was clothlined for his efforts, as the group broke through Eskander's lines.
"I see her!," cries one of Muyibs in Eskander's fire team, but her efforts are too little too late. The simulation registers Eskander and the Barid's as KIA in close combat, before registering the Chimera and her Pupniks death by a shotgun used in blast mode.
With few threats remaining, the Gecko advances into the facility, and the simulation exchanges missile and rock fire between it and Eskander's remaining forces. It is eventually declared as "brought down", but with Eskander's forces now in retreat, an engineer moves in to patch up the TAG.
You’ve been doing amazing work! Thank you for your effort!
Really cool report with well described pictures!
Love a good training report. I’ve written many of them.
Your reports just keep getting better written, keep up the great work!
