Pre-Battle
Haqqislam and Kosmoflot faced off against each other in an effort to find and erase a suspected enemy AI. The mission required us to hack one of two consoles in the middle of the table to determine which of three servers in the enemies deployment zone contained the enemy program. The enemy AI could then be removed by either moving a hacker with data pack into b2b and wiping the program or destroying the server or destroying the server with a CC weapon.
Time to confess, I made a couple of blunders in the lead up to this game. It was part of a casual games day at our local shop and I spent the night before painting some last minute terrain. So I made my lists in a rush and didn’t read the mission rules properly. I filled up with some anti-material weapons without realisingI’d have to be b2b. So I only had one anti-material CC weapon. Second problem was I had to leave the house faster than expected without having time to check my minis. So there are several proxies.
I won the lieutenant’s roll and chose to go first. My opponent let me deploy first.

Deployment
I chose the Mukhtar with Hacking Device to carry the datapack. Zuleyka was the only unit with a CC weapon. I kept her back for my final deployment piece. My opponent put had some heavier, long range firepower to my right side of the board. I thought the terrain favoured the left so I risked putting her that side.
My opponent surprised me by making a roll to deploy Uxia on my side of the table.

The Game
I kicked off and used my Lasiq and Azra’il to clear space for the Mukhtar to approach. I was able to discover Uxia but she dropped smoke in ARO and I couldn’t finish her. The Mukhtar hacked the console taking a risk baiting a camouflaged unit which didn’t reveal. Bad news, the server with the rogue AI was on the right. Damn.
It felt like it was time to roll out the Magheriba Guard. But this wasn’t Maggie’s game. I couldn’t get a decent LoS from it’s position but it was in an awkward spot looking through the doorways of the objective room in the middle. I left it and used my Lasiq sniper to start taking out potential foes. I set up in suppression on my right to try and prevent any incursions.
Ariadna began by running an Irmandinho for the console but my Lasiq finished them off. They then took a careful route using smoke and managed to get their Wardriver over to a console and hack it. My middle server was revealed to be their target. My opponent set about trying to reduce my units without much success. The biggest surprise was my Lasiq facing a burst 4 ARO HMG and critting. She was becoming my MVP.
By the final round I’d made no progress finding an angle to march Zuleyka through. I carried on pushing with my Mukhtar but without success. Ariadna had a fireteam stationed by the server which was enough of a deterrent. Uxia had been rendered unconcscious and I took the opportunity to score a classified against her. I had a narrow lead but my force was intact with a big suppression halo. I killed their Wardriver so they’d have to march to a server and smash it. Heh, what have they got that could do that!
Enter the Bear
They’ve got bear! Uh oh, that could do it. The bear made a big entrance and barreled towards our line. I had AROs available but now my dice deserted me. The bear kept dropping smoke and pushing forward. My line was holding though and the bear wasn’t going to make it. Ariadna had a classified that was doable, kill two of my troops in CC. The bear had a big hammer and 2 orders left. My Azra’il was first in line and I was confident he’d hold the bear up long enough. But they were both in smoke and I had no other AROs.

BANG, one massive uppercut and the bear felled him. Wow. A DA hit and my HI lost both wounds in one order. The bear rounded on the next troop, a Daylami. I fired every ARO to no avail and I had a lot. The bear hit with another hammer slammer and crit, my Daylami had to make three saves.

He saved! Neither of us could believe it. Infinity still surprises me after all these years. A narrow win to Haqq thanks to that one objective scored.
