A wild mix of characters stands in small groups in front of the grey concrete baracks they inhabited for the last days.
The first group are battle hardened veterans, two of them in powered armor. A Daofei, a Hac Tao and a Daoying are standing like they are on overwatch, carefully assessing the other, obviously less experienced soldiers.
Right next to them is a Celestial Guard, four Kuang Shis with their masks on kneeling in front of him in the scorching sun. The Celestial is looking bored on his monitor. “We need to start soon, they are close to dehydration.” he mumbles to himself.
The last group, consisting of two Shaolin in traditional fighting attire, a Ninja in his black tight suit and a Beasthunter are moving anxiously, something between shadowboxing and a sports warm-up. One Shaolin shows off by putting one end of his staff on the ground, holding the other, and then balancing on the middle of the stick.
A loud shout makes them all look up.
“Lieutnant, Officers.” The general who stepped up aknowdleges the elite looking trio.
“Recruits! Today will be your first day of combat. Well, not actual combat, but combat training, under as realistic conditions as we can muster. As you all may know, we are in a rush to mobilize our troops as the Combined Army launced it’s surprise attack just hours ago. But as Sun Tze said: “He will win who, prepared himself, waits to take the enemy unprepared.” So we need to prepare you for the tasks ahead! Our islamic allies have agreed to have a bit of a sparring with us, to prepare you for the fight against the forces of the Combined Army, who want to bring down our glorious civilisation; but also prepare you for the upcoming battle against the eternal foes of PanOcenania, with their immoral and outdated system.
For this, we have built a replica of the Cameliard Guard post, where fierce battles are taking place this second. This will be your final test before you are deployed exactly there to support our currently fighting regiments.
You will be joined by our newest model of robot technology, straight from the factories of the Jade Empire. The Long Ya. Use it’s brutal firepower against soft and hard targets alike to your advantage! Also, if we see fit, we will add a jump troop to your command. You can now recieve your weaponry at the armory. But beware. Even though this is a test, we will use live ammunition. Should one of you catch a bullet, we can use the Cube technology to save your asses, but don’t waste the Emperors ressources carelessly.
Dismissed!”
The Haqqislami force were already at the site constructed for this battle.
Daoying sighed. "We got signs of the presence of Saladin on our intelcom. Be prepared to face a tightly organized opponent. Therefor, we will strike quickly to surprise them. Hac Tao and Daofei will take control of the central room as quickly as possible, and endure their onslaught there. You two have the best chance of survival. Shaolins, you will take the flanks, and hinder the Muslims from advancing. Celestial guard, you will hold our backs and protect me while I keep an eye on the communications. The remotes will suppress the enemy as long as possible. Good luck."
Turn 1 Yu Jing:
Hac Tao opened fire immediately. First sparks were spilled by a flash pulse bot, first blood by a Krakot Renegade. Meanwhile the Daofei Hacker opened the doors to the central room without any effort. Soon his brother in arms, the Hac Tao was by his side. His heavy machinegun and the Daofeis MULTI-Rifle layed fire on the enemy positions. "Now only hope we don't run out of ammo", the Hac Tao said without showing any sign of emotion, while hammering in a fresh magazine.
Turn 1 Haqqislam:
Unphased by all the chaos around him, a seemingly harmless civilian wandered the battlefield, seemingly getting away from the clashing frontline. When the celestial guard recognized him, it was already to late. A Fiday opened fire on a Kuang Shi, with the Daoying as collateral. He could not get to safety in time. Cube one, wasted. The assassin died in the crossfire, but his task was done.
In the center, a Liberto approched the room, and manage to dish out some pain to the Hac Tao with his Shotgun in an attempt to break the suppressive fire. He was quickly dispatched off and riddled by bullets.
To make matters worse, another mercenary showed himself from the shadows. First, he knocked out a Long Ya drone. Then the famous sniper Knauf took up his rifle, aiming at the Hac Tao, the most valuable target he could muster. Just barely out of Hac Taos reach, where the suppressive fire was thin and unfocussed, he let his shot ring. The HMG was silenced immediately. Cube 2, wasted in just the first wave of opposition.
In an attempt to quickly disrupt all the Yu Jingians plans, an Asawira, AP Spitfire in hand, waltzed up to the central objective room, with a supporting remote by his side. But as he took just one step inside, he could only see the green eyes of the Daoyings mask flashing once, before a loud beeeeeeep nearly burst his eardrums and his visor got blurred. He was successfully isolated without hitting one shot.
Yu Jing Turn 2:
As his commander died, the Beasthunters instincts took over. A quick dance around the advertisement column where he was positioned, a sharp hiss from his Panzerfaust, and down went Asawira. The Shaolin advanced on the left flank, while the remaining Long Ya improved his position a bit. One of the monks successfully disabled the repeater endangering the Daofei with a load of his chain rifle.
In an attempt to kill their High Command a Tiger Soldier dropped from the skies. But when he stepped around the corner, not Saladin awaited him, but a loaded shotgun. "Holomask", he thought, before he got knocked down, finger on his flamethrowers trigger. Just seconds after landing, his lights have gone out.
Haqqislam Turn 2:
Already the Haqqislami forces started to run out of breath. With their main gun gone, and a good chunk of their midfield, not much was left to bring the Daofei out of position. Their last hope was a Mukhtar, equipped with a Multispectral Visor Lv. 2 and a Red Fury.
Positioned on Yu Jings right flank he began his run for the elevated position on one of the red building complexes. His first burst was skillfully dodged by a Shaolin Monk, and as he pushed on, he found not only one but two Monks facing him at the same time. He split his burst, but to no avail. One monks pistol shot better then his Red Fury, and the other Shaolins chain rifle finished the job.
Turn 3:
The Yu Jing forces were exhilarated. They bolstered the fron line, while in the far back, the Celestial Guard gathered some infos from the knocked out Fidays body.
A Muttawi'ah tried to make a run for the Panoplies in the center room, to at least bring some loot home, but to no avail. The beast hunters flamethrower brought him down, after dodging another of Knaufs shots. Then Haqqislam retreated and gave up the battle.
Back at their base, the General congratulated them on their descisive victory.
"To be honest, at first I did not have much hopes for this mission. But your heart to face such talented snipers as Knauf, your genious handling of our hacking technology and at last great teamwork made this a success. I deem you ready for real combat. And now, to the bunks. Get a good night of sleep."
Thanks to Atherakian for having a great, patient and swingy game with me!
The Muttawi’ah dying to a direct template weapon is very much a live-by-the-sword-die-by-the-sword situation. Well fought!
Love to see some good Long Ya love. Keep it up mate!
