Training operation vs O-12

I hope this document finds you in better spirits than the troops currently on the ground commander. An impromptu training exercise between our ground forces and nearby Ariadna forces took place at 1900 hours near the Zebu Research Station to improve battle readiness before taking the fight to the combined army menace.

………………Document Recording the Training Events………

………………………Zebu Research Center……….
……..Status of Current Research Subjects is to be determined……….

The training exercise was a mock battle of controlling vital ground in a nearby unused research compound to simulate fighting under supply shortages. This was done to help improve fighting behind enemy lines if it became necessary. Task Force Corgo was tasked with testing their recently received Zeta to make sure it was operating at optimal functionality.

………..Operation details……………..

Caledonian Turn 1:
Task Force Corgo was setup with a defensively position lynx to remove enemy snipers and an enemy razor placed in the midfield to hamper any early aggressive units. The rest of the O-12 forces were setup to cover all the firelanes to slow down approaching forces until a counter-attack could be formed. An predictable, but frequently forgotten infiltrating appeared in the reserve phase very close to the alpha and his recently acquired Zeta. Uxia made defending the Alpha LT much more difficult, and could have been avoided with a better planned deployment, but that is what training exercises between friends are for. The Zeta placement was thought to help secure the alpha’s position and leave him in a spot that could remove enemy long range threats. Uxia managed to remove the Alpha LT with a well-placed boarding shotgun template that also managed to damage the Zeta. Thankfully the nearby turrent was able to detain her before she was able to do more damage. The loss of the LT immediately removed the threat of a proper counter-attack from O-12 forces and put our forces on the back foot.

McMurrough and a Cameronian quickly moved up the table flanks to occupy the far middle zones, and the volunteer fireteam managed to take another quarter of the table and a terminal with an overwatching HMG that had its eyes on the Zeta. Foolishly the Razor came out of hidden deployment to shotgun template alongside his mine in a vain hope to remove the Cameronian from the board before he caused more problems. The Cameronian took both on the chin and proceeded to remove him with his chainrifle. The Mormear team followed behind him disabled the Peeler TR bot. McMurrough and the midfield Cameronian while also being in loss of lieutenant was going to present a very difficult question if a breakout was going to be attempted.

O-12 turn 1:
Due to the lack of leadership and the surprising amount of casualties I sustained, I knew I was going to have a tough time this turn. The varangian guard did his impetuous move and had a chain rifle fight with the Cameronian. The varangian took a wound to go dogged, so he followed up with his irregular order to beserk into the large wolfman. The varangian managed to get the upper hand, but only managed to scrape his sword across the beast’s armor before he slowly slumped over at the end of the turn. The monstrucker repaired the Peeler TR bot in a vain hope that it would be able to soak some orders from the opponent’s next turn to buy some time. The Zeta used his large gun to remove the overwatching HMG Volunteer and the TR turrent from across the table, but was unable to beat the cateran. I was brilliantly able to place the model in such a place that I avoided my best range bands as much as possible against every threat. The lack of orders was felt so the Lynx was held back in a vain hope that if the opponents next active turn was not too devastating I would manage to have a proper long range attack piece.

Caledonian turn 2:
McMourough ran around the complex building and sliced the cyberghost in half easily while everyone around him shot at the angry space scot to no avail due to his total immunity. The Cameronian on the other flank moved forward to trade with the TR bot with his chainrifle to once again disable its ability to fire at approaching enemies. The deadly Mormaer team moved forward to set itself up and trade shots with the Zeta. My vain hope of surviving or turning the tides turned into ash in my mouth as the Mormaer managed to crit every time with its AP HMG to put my metal behemoth on its backside.

The volunteer fireteam moved into position to reprogram one of the closer terminals, but was blinded by the raveneye officer in the corner. The gangbuster that was hiding on the stairs near the objective shot and managed to reduce their numbers even more to prevent them from being able to properly reprogram the terminal.

O-12 turn 2:
Morale low and short of manpower, O-12 Taskforce Corgo would attempt to get any objective that was within reach. The lynx appeared from nowhere and snuck within sight of the oppressive cateran. His shot was true and disable the overwatching sniper. With the little remaining initiative, the monstrucker was determined to reprogram the cloest terminal to get salve what he could. He moved forward and hugged cover to use his AP ammo to remove the Mormaer that would hound him the entire way to the objective. He rounded the corner in the perfect rangeband to miss every shot and get crit shot by the AP HMG. He fell over and the exercise was called. The exercise proved that the Ariada forces in the area were ready to take on the alien threat and help protect the Human Sphere.

After-Battle Thoughts

I seriously messed up in turn 0 when I took going second thinking it would be best for the scenario. And also placing the TAG in an open position to be shot at during the opponent’s active turn. The Alpha position was just bad and I feel bad for doing it. Any hope of making a game of it quickly disappeared when my opponent managed to crit almost every time he picked up a dice. It was a good learning game and it truly was a training exercise. The zeta will have its REVENGE!
