Durgama Takeover

Pitiful. That was the only word that pulsed through the Charontid’s neural net that seemed to fit humanity. Even now, as the forces of the EI pushed ever further into human controlled space, they bickered and fought with one another. They didn’t seem to grasp the inevitability of their absorption into something greater than themselves.

The EI construct was taking shelter in the lee of an ancient tree as it monitored the human patrols push forward. The corrupted sentry gun and the Q-drone provided little in the way of opposition but it forced the human troops to reveal their positions and strength. Emboldened by the early victory of their heavy armour some light infantry, classified as Zhanshi, advanced up the opposite flank. There was a momentary flicker of concern that rippled across the constructs analysis as they identified and eliminated a Shasvastii agent. It was impressive even if inconsequential to the grander plan. This team of Zhanshi had pushed too close to a Shrouded and as some of their number sort to hack it others charged into combat. Disjointed and incoherent. They didn’t have the unity of purpose that the EI brought.

It had seen enough. Commands pulsed from the Charontid to the forces under its command. The Daturazi moved up to support the engaged Shasvastii and brought a swift violent end to the human soldier. The Morat fanatic could barely contain its savage glee as it pounced onto another trooper freeing the Shrouded to scan the commlogs of the now distracted Zhanshi. Now was the time to act. Synthetic sinews and muscles powered the Charontid forward and it fired into the remaining Zhanshi vaporising them and destroying another turret before seeking cover again. There was no need to leave itself exposed to the heavy armour that the humans had brought with them.

Indeed, seeming keen to avenge their fallen comrades, the pair of heavily armoured YuJing soldiers were moving to gain a firing solution on the Charontid’s position. Suddenly smoke started billowing around the Charontid’s feet as the Daturazi provided cover. Wasting no time the construct moved to a safer position and easily managed to access the memory unit of a civilian engineer as they cowered nearby.

As the Shrouded slinked forward to retrieve access codes to the industrial facility from another civilian caught in the sudden violence the tactical map indicated human aerial response was on route. There was no need to engage the humans any further. They had what the EI needed to take this location. Let the humans retrieve their dead this was only the beginning.
