Durgama Takeover

Let me start by saying that this in no was was a huge victory for me. I played my dad, who hasn’t played in a while, but was too excited not to participate in the campaign. He plays Ariadna primarily. To get him back in the swing, we focused on primary mechanics, used a lot of basic line troops, and a heavy hitter in Van Zant. He also wanted to tryout a fireteam (his first time) which ended up being a big mistake. We withheld from the Classified Deck option, as Capture and Protect was enough special rules for his first game in a while.

My shevastii rolled hot, and got Initiative, he had me deploy first. Two of my troopers infiltrated mid board (remaining on my side) but I opted for no hidden deployment as I didn’t want to blow my father’s mind with those shenanigans just yet. My dad opted to turtle up behind some building, with a large for on my left (behind his main building) he opted not to protect his beacon thinking I’d rush in, and he would respond via ARO via Grunt/112 Fire Team. He left his troops just visible and pressure was placed early.

The main routing of this battle, my infiltration and Camo were too much for his grunts and Marauder. Van Zant took on my Gwailo, but ultimately fell to a lucky grit. My Dad’s fireteam move mid board, but luck was not on his side and Camo/Cover were too much, his Paramedic and Link Team Leader were killed. That was enough for fireteam for my dad. With being such a low point mission (again beginner game) my shrouded was able to move mid board (with Van Zant down, his fire team broken on the other side of the building out of LOS) and capture the beacon at the tail end of turn 2. My dad was not able to recover and stop my shrouded from pushing back to my zone. My remaining Nox LT. was enough to hold off my Dad’s final Grunt advance. Scoring me the win.

Lots of lessons for both me and my dad, I think I may have went a little too advanced on my side for a beginner, but my dad had fun. We are planning another game soon. In the end….Victory for the CA.
