Carpuk

Having recently introduced my gaming buddy carp uk to infinity and getting him hooked and looking to buy an army I banded about the suggestion of playing in this campaign. I have played a couple of N3 games and one N4 game prior to tonight’s game. What better way to drill in those rules and to cut our teeth properly than by participating in the Durgama takeover campaign. Credit to carp uk for taking the photography below as it is all his doing.

Initial Table Set Up

Carpuk won the the initiative roll at the start of the game, choosing to keep initiative and go second. I chose deployment and picked the deployment zones and that carpuk would deploy first. Carp deployed all of his minis bar his Zhayedan and deployed his associated HVT minis towards the centre and rhs of the map (looking from my deployment). I then deployed all of my minis bar my ninja and my associated HVTS for the scenario were deployed mainly on the lhs with one to the right of centre. Carp then deployed his Zhayedan, meanwhile after failing the PH roll on my Ninja he hidden deployed near the blue container and one of my HVT’s in the hope of providing some support if required. We both deployed our turrets, carp going with a more centralised position whilst I utilised the opening on the left hand side of my deployment to offer some cover to the HVTs stuck out in the open.

Prior to starting the game we ran through all the classified objectives and noticed certain ones were unscorable due to how we had built our lists and lacking demo charges for SABOTAGE, or the infantry requirements for FOLLOW UP, for both our lists. Whereas others played into our lists and others would be such as MAPPING would be with some slight adjustments As such we discussed it with both being newer players and the table being set up somewhat symmetrically I said to carp that if the MAPPING objective was drawn we could both score them even though the building was technically borderline overhanging the deployment zone so long as we ended up inside the deployment zone with the model performing the interaction as intended in the objective itself.

Yujing Turn 1
I chose not to discard any of the classified objectives, as for now they suited my plans. With Carp’s deployment being such that I could act with impunity and avoid the fear of ARO’s I decided to power on piling orders into my tiger soldier. It was now or never as I advanced down the LHS of the table until hugging the building in his deployment zone I could trigger the WIP roll and secure the objective.

One down now onto the next target. I moved across the board towards Carps HVT’s located in the centre and RHS of the board. Chasing the HVT:DESIGNATION objective I got complacent crossing a fire lane to his defensive turret. One ARO later and a dead Tiger Soldier and a conundrum to solve, how to secure HVT’s requiring hackers and FO’s with a distinct lack of those units in my list now and an unwillingness to compromise my Ninja this early on. While I was contemplating life decisions I moved my Hsien up into position overlooking the battlefield and clicked his HMG into suppressive mode with his 2nd order. The rest of my order pool went into advancing my units forwards across the board to provide ARO's, particularly aiming to cover any counter advance against my HVT's and leaving the Ninja in his starting position for now.

End Of Turn 1 Yu Jing

Haqq Turn 1
Carp chose to discard HVT: IDENTITY CHECK, replacing this with SABOTAGE. Realising my Hsien was in a powerful position he tried repeatedly to remove the problem by first utilising his Fasid. 3 orders of back and forth exchanges between the 2 models resulted in one frustrated commander, either by completely missing the mark or my Suppressive ARO’s beating the incoming grenade fire in the face to face roles not resulting in damage until the 3rd ARO where it managed to sneak through. Carp’s Zhayedan utilised 2 lieutenant orders to advance across the battlefield avoiding my Hseins HMG fire. Carp utilised his Khawarij manoeuvring to get line of sight onto the HVT and spotting the mini before ducking round back into cover. 1st half of the objective is completed now to rinse and repeat. It was only after this point I realised my Turret had an ARO I could have taken but completely forgot to. My mistake and pointed out to Carp who offered me the opportunity to use it as he ducked back into cover. I however am one of those players that will punish myself so I remember the rules and declined. Carp still needed to remove or hinder the Hsien ready for the 2nd turn, advancing his Tuareg up onto the building behind the defence tower. Having deployed in a hidden state there was nothing I could do until targeted by the Tuareg, she advanced up to the corner with her second and final order and readied her shot declaring a BS attack against my Hsein. Odds on she should have won the face to face roll vs my suppressive return of fire with all the mods, however my critical got through beat her armour and left her unconscious on the rooftop at the end of Carps turn 1

Haqq Turn 1

Yujing Turn 2
With carp not scoring anything in his turn 1 I discarded the unachievable SABOTAGE, which was replaced by IN EXTREMIS RECOVERY.

Now I faced a problem, I had a Ninja that could advance across the field but then comprise the defence of my HVT's, on an almost certain suicide mission, or I could use my disposable Zanshi loitering under the containers in the centre of the map to remove the Tuareg and achieve IN EXTREMIS RECOVERY. Being me, I chose to advance the Zanshi. First order advanced me towards the battlefield centre ready to hopefully remove or at least take carps Fasid out of the fight. Second order was a move up to the corner before a BS attack against the fasid. A lucky burst vs the fasid attempting to huck a grenade at me meant I got 1 hit and a crit onto him. The Fasid passed his armour roll but failed his guts roll for the hits his armour took. Not being able to move 2” out of line of sight meant carp only had one option to hit the deck.

My Zanshi then further advanced towards the fallen Tuareg taking an ARO from the turret which missed. In response to the ARO the brave Zanshi consumed another order shooting at the turret bringing it down and advanced towards the building. I completely forgot my Zanshii was in the zone of influence of my opponent's Zhayedan, who turned to face the incoming threat, consequently as I activated the Zanshi to climb towards the wall the Zhayedan blasted with his shotgun. The armour took the brunt of the hit so I voluntarily failed the guts roll to dodge around the corner prior to scrambling up the side of the building. Once achieved the Zanshi casually strolled over to the fallen Tuareg and failed the first WIP roll to attempt to score Extremis, however the second time Carp was not so lucky and the model was removed from play. I then spent a Lieutenant order to keep the Hsien in suppression and that was my turn 2.

Haqq Turn 2
Carp chose not to discard any of the objectives, mainly planning on chasing HVT DESIGNATION and TELEMETRY.

Carp opened the turn by repositioning his Zhayedan Further advancing on the RHS of the board and avoiding ARO’s from my Hsien, with both orders spent he then went about chasign the objectives. Carp climbed his Khawarij up onto the roof and used a second order to advance out. He failed the spotting of the HVT as my turret ARO’d and brought the Khawarij down to unconscious. Ricky then proceeded into saving mode having his Ghulam Dr climb the building after the Khawarij and apply a Medikit at range rather than risk having the turret repeat the same onto him. Carp then attempted with his remaining orders to Smoke the turret out preventing reactions with speculative fire however these attempts wer for nought.

Yujing Turn 3
With carp playing cautiously and not finalising his scoring on HVT DESIGNATION I discarded FOLLOW UP, which was replaced by HVT ESPIONAGE. Looking back maybe I should have discarded the objective carp was chasing, however points tend to mean prizes, and theoretically I could also score this. Better to have a fallback plan than have all my eggs in one basket hey.

Onto the turn. My Ninja moved from its deployment location across the battlefield towards the centre and the HVT target. Second half of his second order was used to perform the WIP roll, just failing. 3rd order spent on the Ninja I succeeded on the WIP roll and continued my advance towards the rhs, with HVT Espionage scored and a 3-0 lead at this point I committed to repositioning some troopers to weather the incoming storm. I spent both lieutenant orders on my Hsein to move him across the building top and click the hmg back into suppressive fire mode again. Finalising my turn to advance my Zanshi paramedic forwards to provide covering fire should Carp advance on the RHS of the board with his Zhayedan, and clicked the Zuyong into suppressive fire mode also.

Haqq Turn 3
Carp decided to push on and utilise speculative smoke fire from his Fasid over the top the the building to obscure the turrets LOS onto his Khawarij. 3 Orders later the smoke eventually hit its mark. The Khawarij then advanced out of cover and spotted the HVT completing HVT Designation. Carp then further advanced up using the same FO and another order to target my Zuyong completing HVT telemetry. Having used all of his standard orders and not having the range to achieve HVT Inoculation with his Ghulam Dr, Carp decided to attempt vengeance and used his Zhayedan to exact revenge with his shotgun. The 1st shot knocked the mini unconscious, with the 2nd order and shot killing her outright

Game score
HAQQISLAM - 2 classified objectives (TELEMETRY & HVT: DESIGNATION)
YU JING 5 Total - 3 classified objectives (MAPPING, IN EXTREMIS & HVT ESPIONAGE) and a further 2 points for winning the battle as per the scenario rules.

Debrief -
I was surprised how Carp managed to pull 2 objectives back in the final round, and had less orders been used on speculative fire for the smoke his Ghulam Dr could also have scored HVT INOCULATION. Ending the game as a tie. We both really enjoyed the game and scenario, with the Classified objectives certainly adding to the tension as Yu Jing defended the steelworks from the Haqqislam incursion. Having previously paid the same points level on a 4x4ft mat the smaller size made for more closer quarters and gritty fighting.

Also the dice did not seem to fall my opponents way rolling lower in face to face rolls or completely missing the mark on several occasions, even when unopposed. Occasionally that is just how the game pans out. For being a newer players and discussing it with a long time friend who is massively into infinity, we deployed and played fairly well. @WarbossD if you are reading this the Yu Jing are coming for you next
