For the second time in recent memory, Gabrielle De Ferzen’s force of Military Orders troops was called to action against a Yu Jing Invincible Army detachment supported by a Guijia. After the last disastrous engagement at the dockyards, the Seraph under De Ferzen’s command had been refit with a heavy machine gun to engage the State Empire forces at longer ranges. Unlike the Military Orders forces that tended towards short range firepower and close engagement, Yu Jing’s Invincible Army typically attacked with a sledgehammer of long range firepower encased in heavy armor. The new weapon will hopefully prove useful.

Having taken the initiative this time, the PanOceanian forces deployed with an eye to holding one flank with a powerful team of light infantry mixed with De Ferzen and a Teuton carrying a tinbot, with a hammer of the Seraph and a Bulleteer-led team on the other. If the objectives could be claimed early, perhaps the Yu Jing force would be spread thin.

Military Orders Deployment

The Yu JIng forces deployed to match this. A Yan Huo and Shang Ji toting heavy weapons faced off against the offensive flank of the PanOceanian deployment, with a lighter deployment of REMs on the other flank. The bait would not be taken by their canny commander, and more than likely an intense fight would develop between the Invincibles heavy units and the PanOceanian ones. The Bulleteer and the specialist nearby could not advance to their objectives without the Shang JI being forced out place, and neither could De Ferzen's team. The street was watched, and a fight was necessary.

Invincible Army Deployment

The last units to enter the battlefield were the TAGs. De Ferzen brought in his Seraph to contest the heavy Invincibles units, and the Guijia entered on the total opposite end of the battlefield. Presumably hoping to enjoy a range advantage this time, the Yu Jing TAG loaded rapid fire ammunition.

The Seraph began the battle by activating its thrusters and leaping on top of a building in front of it. The Guijia pilot, seeing the Seraph's armor, fired an explosive round from his MULTI machine gun that barely penetrated the the PanOceanian TAG's armor, causing light damage. It was an uncontested shot. The rest would not be. Walking down a staircase nearby, the TAGs exchanged volleys of fire. Superior PanOceanian ballistic training ensured that the Guijia took a huge number of hits, but its armor held largely untouched by the fire. Sensing that this was a waste of effort, and with a chance to push strategic objectives slipping away, the Seraph moved around the corner of a building to engage the Yan Huo with its remaining effort. These efforts were rewarded, and both the Yan Huo and Shang Ji were quickly downed.

The Seraph Fights the Yan Huo
The Invincibles Heavy Infantry are Disabled

Now that the way was clear, the Bulleteer and light infantry that had been delayed by the Shang Ji advanced. Easily claiming one objective, they advanved forward to observe where the Shang Ji was lying on the ground. There was a doctor nearby and, while he may be revived, he would not be able to fire his gun without splitting his attention if so.

With a chance to remove the Guijia from the battlefield entirely, our Peacemaker advanced to short range and fired several AP slugs from its heavy shotgun at the Guijia. The Guijia pilot, however, was faster. Out remote was struck and disabled by the TAG.

The Peacemaker Is Disabled

With a chance to respond, the Yu Jing commander wasted no time. The Guijia strode across the battlefield to draw a line of fire to the Seraph, and knocked it down in a single burst of fire. Already damaged, the PanOceanian TAG slumped as it awaited an engineer.

The Guijia Disables our TAG

With one less gun watching the downed Shang Ji, and the doctor free to move, the Yu Jing doctor expertly patched up the Shang JI. Standing up and reestablishing his squad communications link, the Shang Ji found himself staring at a Bulleteer's spitfire and a rocket launcher held by an Order Sergeant. They had not been there when he lost consciousness, and he determined not to let them stand in his way. Splitting attention between the two turned out to be a poor decision, however, and a rocket knocked the Shang Ji well past unconsciousness. His cube would survive, but the LHost was gone.

The Shang Ji is Healed... Briefly

WIth the Yan Huo and Shang JI off the field, and the only heavy unit remaining being a badly damaged Guijia, the Yu Jing forces withdrew to lick their wounds and repair. A final reckoning would come when a fight at the Reliquary itself occurred. Both TAGs had been damaged, but not irreparably. Watching the Yu Jing forces withdraw, De Ferzen had a sinking feeling that he would be seeing them again soon.

Super Jump did indeed play a role in the game. Not a huge one, and I see that my pictures don’t include a screenshot of the Seraph’s deployment spot, but it was next to the Fugazi on the far right of the deployment zone and was able to super jump on top of the building directly in front of it rather than walking around. It’s not a huge change, and I generally think that super jump isn’t great in N4 with all the downsides it has compared to climbing plus. But the Seraph pays for it, so I try to use it if I can.

Did superjump play any role in the game? I feel like the n4 superjump gutted it usefulness for tags to pretty bear ppointless :/

An excellent report and a fun read. You may have won this time but the State Empire shall win in the end!
