Operation: RUNIHURA EXERCISE
300 POINTSAfter our previous battle wherein I stomped Razors_Edge into the ground so badly I felt bad, we figured we had enough time for another game. It had been a very long time since I’d used Khawarij so I figured I’d bust them out again. “Surely,” I thought, “they could be able to tear through light infantry with ease!”
Which is true!
Except he didn’t bring any.
Instead what happened was my opponent parked a fireteam with two wounds each and heavy armour on the board and proceeded to kick my teeth in. I had hoped to use Tarik Mansuri as a battering ram, but he failed to shoot an HVT, got blinded by Sun Tze from an absurdly long distance, then I kept rolling too high to have the Janissary heal him.
Over the next two turns I tried to have my Khawarij sneak up on the enemy fireteam but they got absolutely wrecked – every face to face roll was a failure, and by the end all my Khawarij were unconscious or dead and the Yu Jing fireteam was completely unharmed.
Weirdly the game ended in a draw – he killed more army points, but I killed more lieutenants, and we both killed both of each other’s HVTs. A real blast of a game, though – despite my atrocious luck that saw me fail almost every face-to-face roll, the ones I succeeded at felt great. Killing Sun Tze early was a moral victory that at least tied the game.
Taking the bouncy lads out for a spin. I just noticed that the Janissary has some paint chipped on his sword.
THE PLAN, PART TWO: The Khawarij fireteam moves up the right flank and delivers carnage and misery unto the Yu Jing.
THE PLAN, PART THREE: Kill this fireteam via clever application of spitfire bullets and/or heavy rockets.
Then Sun Tze managed to blind Mansuri from a ridiculously long distance. This was when I started to roll pretty much exclusively single-digits on my dice.
The Khawarij did a bit of damage early on but with a blind Tarik Mansuri I had to save my orders to fix his eyeballs.
OK, I spent another pile of orders getting my fireteam across the board. Pretty good flanking position. Managed to kill this unpainted guy.
Maneuvered my heavy rocket launcher into position. Here we go. Gonna land some hits. Blast some fools into the afterlife.
OK we'll skip ahead to when the Yu Jing fireteam closed to melee without taking a scratch during AROs. AP+Shock is pretty sweet when your opponent is lightly armoured, has one wound, and I roll above a 2. Sadly none of that was the reality I was facing.
Tarik Mansuri did some real damage, killing both of the enemy HVTs and a few more models out of spite.
Meanwhile in the section of the board I call The Khawarij Graveyard I thought I'd be clever and super-jump into a sweet shotgun position. All I had to do was roll well and I could maybe blast a full 80% of that fireteam into Yu Jing Heaven. Instead I rolled a 20 and a 2, the whole fireteam dodged, and then shot my brave, brave Khawarij to death.
I was admiring your variation of this list with the dual Missile Haris and thought I really like this but I’m concerned about dealing with hard targets and then I read this report and your opening statements.
