Tyrannotron

Saved by the bell!

Ok, let’s make this (mostly) quick and painless:

So, Tyrannotron came and, as I feared, asked to borrow the Avatar he had gifted to me a couple of years ago. I had prepared a list to (sort of) deal with that eventuality. Only then I discovered that the list I had chosen was saved halfway between the editing process from a previous list.

To amusing results.

The hangars
The alien menace

(Obviously) he won initiative and chose to go first. I tried a dual turret approach employing both flavors of Azra’il to try and cover most of the table. I also had a couple of specialists in hidden deployment waiting to shine, a Farzan CoC in case things went awry. And… a Fiday? And a Najjarun?? No medic?! What kind of list was this?

Since we were on a tight schedule, I shrugged and tried to make the best of the situation. I positioned my Fiday away from the Avatar, threatening a K1 sniper morat, covered the back of my IPs in case of AD, hid the rest of my people, cut his orders short and let the show begin.

Nope, definitely not Aïda Swanson...

Surprisingly, instead of coming at me full Rambo with his Avatar, Tyrannotron started nice and soft, repositioning his sniper (no ARO) and deploying a Fraacta hacker to data scan my HVT (his first classified), then trying to get the central, less exposed box, which she failed. After expending three full orders inside the ZoC of my Tuareg hacker in hidden deployment, I decided to do something about it, and we exchanged quantronic fire to no effect.

After that, he changed his mind and tried to advance his alien overlord, firing at my Azra’il turrets, putting one wound on each, but decided to stop after receiving a critical hit from the Feuerbach, which he saved. He then tried to deploy a Cadmus hacker to another box, but failed the roll, so he spent his remaining orders repositioning his cheerleaders to avert a Fiday surprise.

There goes a Fraacta

My turn, and the Ghazi couple on the left advance and manage to catch the Fraacta off guard, downing her with a couple of boarding shotgun rounds, only for her to receive a coup de grace, netting me my first classified. The Ghazis from the right advance too and deploy a smokescreen to cover the approach of my Ragik hacker, who enters from the side of the table and manages to get the rightmost box (the one that the Cadmus had aimed at), and data scan the enemy HVT (second classified for me), before retreating to my DZ. With my last orders I re-camo my Tuareg and reposition my Fiday to cover the leftmost lane.

I mean, *there* goes a Fraacta!

Second turn and things start to get weird. The K1 sniper shoots the Feuerbach, getting burned up in the process (continuous damage, baby!), so the Avatar advances again, downing the HMG Azra’il (no medic, remember?), and proceeds to the central box, only to get fired upon by everybody: he gets marked by the Tuareg, and the boarding shotgun Ghazi manages to tank two HMG shots in the face, while putting a wound on the alien with a template. Stubborn, Tyrannotron repositions and unleashes his full burst against the Azra’il, then watches in disbelief as the ARO crits him, while the Ghazi template him with their E/Marat and boarding shotgun and the Tuareg tries to isolate him. He shrugs it off, but is in dire straits indeed.

Remember, that is no medic

At this point, we are running out of time, so we decide to end it here. Judging by the points, I am winning, but Tyrannotron’s Staldron can be counted as a specialist and he still has orders to kill my entire list twice; while my Fiday lurks near his Cadmus specialist and my only other specialist, the Tuareg, is pinned down and unable to do anything but to try and survive. So we analyze the situation and call it a draw. A really undeserved one for me, since he went so easy on me, and my list was a total mess, but a draw nonetheless. :)

Run, alien abomination! For I am no mere mortal!

Our warcor loves to take one and stomp the newbies, so I once went to a tournament with a shas list loaded with monofilament mines, only to take him down and teach him a lesson xD
Other than that, it always ends badly for me.

Coordinated orders may help. It’s high WIP but you could potentially stack negative modifiers with hacking. I think Methuselah took one down in one of his reports by targeting a model next to it and hitting it with the guided missile template.

Bottom line, I don’t know how to deal with that beast. Period xD
