Nomad Deployment
Combined Army Deployment

"There's no place like home." Kiwi said to himself, as he looked around at his Nomad Comrades who were enforcing security at the Raveneye Port Battery. "But if you can't be at home, it's better to be in space than on the ground."

Kiwi had recently returned from a tour with the O12, and found his Nomad brothers to be a much better fit - less bureacracy, much less paper work. As he ran his toes through the muddy spaceship floor beneath his feet, Kiwi couldn't help but find himself questioning the design decision to give the port rail gun battery a dirt floor.

"There's somebody coming our way."

Kiwi was snapped back to the moment by a voice over his radio. "Looks friendly, but we weren't expecting any company, better go investigate."

Turn One: Pay no attention to the Speculo Killer behind the curtain

"We weren't expecting company, better get somebody over there to investigate. Perhaps one of those puppet things?" Kiwi instructed his team.

"Puppet here, he looks as friendly as a bunny to me. All clear."

Kiwi looked over to the nearby Bunny Puppetbot, and felt a shiver run down his spine. "I've never really trusted bunnies, can somebody else have a look?"

Poking its scanner around the corner, the Salyut Zond reported back - "I don't see anything."

"I still don't like it." Kiwi muttered. "Perhaps we can get some human eyes on it."

"Don't see anything sir." A nearby Securitate reported.

"Some Corregidor human eyes." Kiwi responded, the Tunguska soldier was probably too busy checking her bank balance to have given it a proper look.

"Carlos has got this." came the familiar voice of one of the Jaguars. "I've dropped some smoke just to be safe, and I'm moving to inspect."

A moment later the sound of a blast filled the room. "Damn, that was a mine. Something isn't right, I'm going to drop smoke and have a closer look."

The Jaguar crept around a nearby vending machine. "Hey bro, would you like a drink?" He said to the nearby soldier. "My shout."

"No thank you, I'm fine." said an unfamiliar, but completely ordinary sounding voice.

"INFILTRATOR!" The Jaguar shouted, ducking back into cover, knowing that no self respecting Nomad would turn down a free drink.

The nearby Gorilla Puppetbot poked its head around the corner, and let loose a blast from its Red Fury, eliminating the Combined Army soldier.

"Heads up everybody! We've got Shasvastii in the house!" Kiwi yelled into his radio, alerting his squad to action.

Across the room, the Nomads began to position for action.

On top of a roof, a Sombra solder crept forward. "I think I hear something." Shots erupted from a Q-Drone on a distant rooftop as the Sombra dove for cover.

"Definitely Shasvastii, I'm under fire from a far rooftop." Hearing footsteps much closer, the Sombra's hacking device came to life, and she diverted her attention to the holo-display.

"There's something else..." She began to say and she tried to break through the enemy hackers attack.

"Almost got it...oh no..." The Sombra's hacking device shut off and her radio filled with static a moment before a Nox came across the bridge and opened first with it's HMG.

The Nox's heavy machine gun rounds missed their mark, and the Sombra quick let of a round from her multi rifle, killing the alien.

Before she had a moment to reset her comms equipment another Nox came around the corner, opening fire point blank with its SMG. The Sombra was not quick enough this time, and two bullets sliced through her armour, cutting her down.

A nearby Moran's Crazy Koala was the first to detect the Taighi's now charging up the centre of the battlefield. "HUGS!!!" Screamed its shrill robotic voice as it charged recklessly into the first creature, killing it in a precision explosion.

As the blast cleared, several more Taighi's charged forward, followed by the nanocreened form of a Shasvastii Gwailo.

Turn 2: Pardon the Intrusion

"I'm moving to engage, can somebody throw down some smoke." The sinister emotionless voice of the unit's new Intruder sent a shiver down Kiwi's spine.

A moment later, the sound of a small tin can hitting the ground echoed through the chamber, and a shadow advanced. Kiwi braced for the familiar sounds of HMG fire, but this time he barely heard a brace of quick shots. "A sniper." He thought, before looking across in time to see the robotic form of the Q-Drone fall to the floor.

Not wanting to be outdone, Kiwi began to creep forward in his new suit of Evader power armor, deftly skirting past a nearby hacker and onto a bridge. He lined up a shot at the Gwailo at ground level, however his first shots didn't appear to affect the heavy soldier below.

He fired again, this time getting a clearer shot, several AP rounds from his Spitfire breached the alien's armour, killing the heavy soldier. He advanced again, a took a shot at the Malignos on the nearby rooftop. Despite the range, the Shasvaastii skirmisher proved a better shot, and Kiwi dived to the ground, bleeding slightly from a graze across his side.

On the ground below, Don Juan (another Jaguar) recognised the threat the Taigha's posed to the clustered puppetbots and Salyut. Moving forward in a cloud of smoke, he drew his knives. His first strike cut down the closest Taighi. As another moved to take its place, he let of a blast with his chain rifle.

Molten chain tore through the advancing creature, and reduced its fallen comrade to little more than a blood stain on the dirt road.

On a distant rooftop, the Nomad's barelu noticed a slave drone creeping up to the broken Q-Drone and patching up the damage. Moments late, the heavy machine gun wielding machine of death was again positioned to provide cover fire across the rooftops and streets of the battlefield.

Turn 3: Forward to Victory

"The Q-Drone is back up. Moving to engage." The Intruder's voice remained calm and its shadowy form advanced to get a better shot on the Combined Army remote.

"Let me give you some more smoke." Carlos called out, and he moved towards the last known position of the Sombra. "I'm going to check out what happened to our missing friend over here."

The Jaguar climbed a nearby ladder, and came face to face with 3 surprised Nox; who immediately dived for cover as Carlos's chain rifle spewed out a stream of molten metal. Unable to find anywhere to land, all three Nox were reduced to masses of pulsating flesh on the ground.

Meanwhile the Intruder crept forward, picking off the Malignos on a distant rooftop, before catching the Q-drone by surprise and cutting it down a second time.

With the centre of the battlefield now opened up, the Moran was able to advance his repeater up close to the Shasvastii HVT. "He certainly looks human." The Moran said. "Jazz, why don't you shine a spotlight on him so we can get a closer look."

"I'm on it." The Nomad hacker had been quiet up until now, but was quick to inspect the non-combatant. "I'm uploading the technical read now. This should help us fight these things in the future."

With the battlefield now eerily quiet, Kiwi saw an opening. "I'm going to slip down this wall and secure the the far quadrant." He dropped down the wall and, catching a glimpse of a seed solder, began to move forward to engage. He had barely taken a step before the throbbing pain in his side reminded him he wasn't immortal. He stepped back into cover, content to secure the quadrant.

With only a skeleton force remaining; the Combine army readied itself for a final push. On the flank, the remaining Taigha charged into Don Juan and the Jaguar's killing spree ended.

At the far end of the battlefield, the Slave-Drone was again able to patch up the Q-Drone, who opened fire on the exposed Moran. Whether it was poor workmanship on the patch up, or just not his day was hard to tell; however despite the heavy fire coming his way, the Moran shot was able to knock down the Q-Drone for a third time.

The Moran's must have used up the last of his luck against the Q-Drone, however. Rising to his feet, and charging across the rooftop, the Shasvastii's leader finally revealed himself. His efforts were too little too late, however; and despite finishing the Moran, the Mentor was unable to stop the Nomad's decisively controlling the battlefield.

Conclusion

After a hard fought battle and more than their fair share of luck, the Nomads were able to secure all four quadrants of the Raveneye Port Battery. It was a group effort, with nearly every piece on the board playing a role.

Realising that luck was not with them on this day, the scattered remnant of the Shasvastii Expeditionary force retreated, blending again into the crew of the Raveneye until the time was right to strike again.
