A defeat must never be wasted. The lives lost must be remembered as lessons learned, and for this battle there were many. I’ve just started branching out of my local meta to get more games and wow, this a big pond with many scary fish. Anyway, here is how I was taken apart.

Top of One: With a busted Lt roll, Yu Jing wins and elects for deployment. Knowing how important controlling the room is, I take second turn as well. I set up with fewer defensive pieces than normal, which is immediately exacerbated as my Daylami got discovered and flash pulsed on some poor odds. Free to move up, his Harris bypassed my Fiday and set about wrecking my fire team. The Shaolin shot though two dodges and made the save as the Muyid’s rifle cracked below. This was followed by Jing Qo rounding a corner and blasting my Lt. Satisfied with this damage, all would fall back to distract and delay.

Lessons :
Never deploy over more choke points than you can cover.
If using the +1 command Ghulam, have a second obvious Lt.
Fiday going second need to be in a position to bleed orders.

Bottom of One.
In loss of lieutenant but having four command tokens, I proceeded to use only two to move up and engage. This allowed the Asawira to take some shots and contest the crossing against the Long Ya. The inconclusive firefight means Fiddler cannot safely cross and deal with the Haris in my back line. Disappointed I move up and try to get defensive again.

Lessons
Command tokens are for emergencies. Being in loss of lieutenant round one is an emergency.

Top of Two
With the Armory still not open, the Shang Ji core began to move up. Deciding my fireteam was a more attractive target than the armory, they gunned down a Muyid and a Muttawi’ah. The Haris, then free to move stealthily, crept towards the Asawira. Opening up at point blank range thanks to stealth and dodge, wounds were exchanged, and both would fall back.

Lessons
The closer threat is not always the greater.
Damn a 7-2 fireteam can cover some ground in a hurry.

Bottom of two
Refocusing on the objective, I brought the doctor up to open the doors and establish a presence. Having normal orders again, Fiddler was able to move with the Jackbots and began trying to remove the irritating monks. She was able to wound both, putting Jing Qo down but Liang Kai was able to dodge into the armory. Lastly guns were positioned in the doors and we prayed we could hold.

Lesson learned
When the dice are being mean stop using them. Most everything in Haqq has templates.

Top of Three
An unpleasant surprise of a tiger soldier would spell the end for many things: Fiddler, an Asawira, the rest of my irregulars, and my hope of winning this game. Ruthlessly, he gunned them down all in the back. Freed from any actual fighting, the Shang Ji fireteam set up in the armory and began looting.

Lessons
The longer you can hold a drop trooper the less your opponent is prepared for it.

Bottom of three
Four orders and a dream. Yara, sensing all was lost but hoping to mitigate the damage, pressed up. Using everything, she dove into the armory, taking many shots but activating the console, and denied the objective to the enemy.

Lessons
In Infinity you always have a chance even a slim one
I ended the game with two command tokens those would have been great turn one.
