A Fool's Errand

[URGENT]
// Anwar ibn Aza al-Faez reporting
Candy Corps forces are en route to the Alfutna Terraforming Studies Unit to reinforce the efforts underway. High command has issued orders, and we are intent to stay on task. Scarface is with the Sweet Tooth contingent, tasked with escorting Mistress Double to the theater of operations. We will complete the mission, despite other motivations; with a bit of luck, Candy will find what she’s looking for without compromising the issued commands. Though we are Candy Corps first and Funduq warriors second, the mission here serves the good of all of Haqqislam – and by extension, all of the Human Sphere.

Official orders now lie with the given commands from high command, and all Candy Corps combatants are to adhere strictly to orders from on high. Even if Candy herself directs your operational parameters, do not go against high command. This final point is of the highest priority – as I will be leading the Qurfa detachment in an action that flies in the face of both orders and alliances. As you take your first steps into the Jungles of Concilium Prima, we will already be aboard the Raveneye. Hopefully, if all goes well, our mission will secure the supplies you need to ensure success in your endeavors. If we succeed, we will be labeled traitors, and if we fail – my men have elected to forego cube backup.

With that, it is likely you shall not see me again. I formally relinquish my command. Where once I was among the Delivered, I now shall be that which delivers, or I shall die trying.
That is all. I am no longer among your ranks.

The Attacking Forces as Led by Anwar ibn Aza al-Faez

Deployment

The Engagement Area

Haqqislam forces have struck the Port Battery, electing to use the confusion during the initial conflict to secure supplies from their well-equipped Nomad allies. Choosing to strike using a small infiltration force, the Janissary Anwar ibn Aza al-Faez leads an impetuous group of Ghazi Muttawi’ah into battle, seeking to crash into the opposing forces with Bashi Bazouk support behind the deployment lines. However, a stalwart force of Riot Grrls stands ready to defend the objective.

() Deployment begins after a Lt. Roll, Haqqislam wins with a 13 and Bakunin fails on a 14. Haqqislam elects to take initiative.
* Classified Objectives are as follows: [ Haqqislam – Sabotage ] || [ Bakunin – Net-Undermine ]
(N) Morlocks Roll for Metachemistry: 2x get Climbing Plus, the third +1 ARM & Bioimmunity
(H) Haqqislam attempts to infiltrate an Impersonating Fiday and fails on a 16 WIP roll

Game begins with Bakunin stripping 2 orders from Haqqislam order pool 1 {Player note: I forgot about this possibility going into this 200pt game with so few orders. It greatly affected my turn 1}.

Bakunin Deployment

Turn 1: It Begins

[- Top Turn 1 -]
* I walk on a Bashi Bazouk in Holoecho state near the enemy deployment zone, hoping to put E/M mines in the way of the core team. I forget about how dangerously effective Morlocks would be in battling this, and end up wasting several orders on this – though I manage to drop two mines in sacrificing the Bashi.
* Out of orders to effectively get any work done, I decide to move the Janissary up to a defensive position, and move Zuleyka up the field under cover of smoke with the intention to attack on turn 2.

I Choose You, Bashi Bazouk!
The Attacker Runs Out of Steam... and Moves into Defensive Positions
Anwar Stands Ready with his Trusty AP Rifle

[- Bottom Turn 1 -]
* Ice Cream moves a Morlock into combat with my Bashi Bazouk, I choose to place another mine rather than fight, and the Bashi dies to CC – the Morlock ends up isolated by the first E/M mine.
* The second Morlock manages to dodge the second mine, and I use it as an opportunity to dodge my Janissary and fall prone.
* Now, without any ARO pieces to attack it, the Morlock moves forward, clearing a corner with the second move skill to see Zuleyka as well as my camo token Hunzakut. I assume it will die to my free shot, and use the Hunzakut to drop a repeater – but the Morlock survives Zuleyka’s Light Flamethrower.
* This problematic Morlock continues moving forward towards my now-revealed Lieutenant, but lays a template across Zuleyka and the Hunzakut + Repeater. Hunzakut fires a shotgun and Zuleyka dodges – the Morlock survives the shotgun but my Hunzakut dies.
* Finally, the Morlock moves into CC with the Janissary, who manages to win a f2f roll with a point-plank shotgun.
* The Riot Grrl team and the other Morlock both take a more aggressive position.

Let's Riot, Grrls!

Turn 2: Mounting Death Toll

[- Top Turn 2 -]
* Zuleyka charges forward and kills the other Morlock in CC with her impetuous order. She survives the return attacks.
* The Nazarova twin continues forward with her irregular order, and rushes into CC with the Riot Grrl w/Spitfire – electing to use the flamethrower, she kills Avicenna but does not manage to wound any other model.
* I walk on my Ragik hacker, then move it forward to attempt to spotlight the Riot Grrl. The first attempt fails, but the next order secures a targeted state.
* Now with target lock, I fire a guided missile at the Riot Grrl, who dodges…. we both roll 8s.
* The second missile hits both the Riot Grrl and Fiddler, but they both pass 2 out of 3 armor saves – surviving.
* I use my Lieutenant order to put the Janissary in Suppressive fire.

A Burning, Impetuous Charge!
Target Locked
It's Better When This Works...

[- Bottom Turn 2 -]
* An aggressive push with the last remaining Morlock sees the Ghazi Muttawi’ah defense network disabled, but leaves the Morlock isolated. It will fall on the Riot Grrl Core to take the initiative and win out today.
* The core team moves with the Fiddler as link lead, attempting to fix the targeted state of the Riot Grrl en route, but fails.
* Next, the Riot Grrl w/Spitfire takes charge, attacking the Ragik in cover – who dies to the Burst 5 attack, and the Riot Grrl makes an armor save vs the shotgun template response.
* Another push with the link team has the Fiddler taking the lead. She attempts to kill the Janissary in CC with D-Charges but dies to suppressive fire on the way into CC.
* Finally, the Riot Grrl w/Boarding Shotgun takes link lead and pushes up to see the Janissary. She shoots, and despite the 2x16s vs 3x14s dice odds, manages to wound the Janissary. Not satisfied with the singular wound, she pushes again and manages 2 wounds the second time – Anwar ibn Aza al-Faez dies and is removed from the table.

Can't Stop, Won't Stop - Shotguns Never Bothered Me Anyways

Turn 3: An Objective, Failed

[- Top Turn 3 -]
* I begin in Loss of Lieutenant
* In a desperate bid to defend my objective, the Ghulam w/Deployable Repeater stands up to take shots with his rifle. Failing to win out against the Riot Grrl, he takes a hit but survives the armor save.
* Now panicked, I forget that the Riot Grrl w/Spitfire is already targeted, so I move the Fiday closer to toss a smoke screen for my Ghulam Hacker {Player Note: I also forgot that Riot Grrls don’t care about smoke…}. He succeeds in tossing smoke down but dies for the effort as I elected to do this as a normal roll rather than f2f.
* It’s at this moment I realize that the Riot Grrl is still targeted, and I launch another guided missile. This time, she dies to the missile and is removed – but the Boarding Shotgun model manages a successful dodge roll.
* With no other options, I move the hacker forward into the smoke. It’s at this point I recall that he can be seen in the smoke, so I can’t attack. Electing to continue moving into better range, I risk the armor save vs Boarding Shotgun – and make the roll!

A Desperate Gambit

[- Bottom Turn 3 -]
* Ice Cream’s Morlock moves forward and sees the Ghulam Deployable Repeater. As we’re outside of 8″ range, I elect to shoot with my rifle. The Morlock survives but kills the Ghulam with a Chain Rifle burst.
* The Riot Grrl w/Boarding Shotgun moves towards the beacon, and my Ghulam Hacker chooses to respond with a shotgun in direct hit mode. She shoots back, but I win out – causing one wound to her.
* Now, the midfield camo token chooses to move forward, and reveals itself as a Zero Hacker. It shoots with surprise shot, winning out against my dodge roll, and the hacker goes down.
* Finally, with no remaining opposition, the Riot Grrl grabs the beacon and falls back towards Nomad lines.

All Clear, Smooth Sailing

Post Game Unpacking: Nomads Hold True

[- Results -]
Neither side was able to complete a classified Objective.
Bakunin scores 2 objective points for controlling the enemy beacon, and 1 point for preventing their own from being captured.
Haqqislam does not manage to score.
100 Victory Points remaining for Bakunin
16 Victory Points remaining for Haqqislam

…This misguided attempt at securing gains from allied forces has ended in a proper traitor’s death for Anwar ibn Aza al-Faez and his team of zealots. As they have all elected to forego cube backup, there are no survivors to court-martial for this transgression. Perhaps this event can be spun into a controlled narrative through aggressive MayaNet influence. After all, it’s said that he who gets out in front of a story can direct the reception of those who hear the tale. Though history is written by the victors, this time the lone survivor was connected directly to the Data Sphere, and as the Bakunin forces head back to report this to command – the data is already in the cloud.
